1 Find a Place or Feature
- Click inside the window and type the initial letters of the place
- A list of places with those letters will be shown
- Select the relevant one and click Apply
- Multiple places can be selected


2 Deselect Features
- To deselect All Features click on this circular arrows on the top right of the window
- To deselect One or Multiple features click on Remove next to each one
3 Zoom to Extent 
- Click on the Zoom to Extent button to zoom to selected features
- If no features are selected, it will zoom to Full Extent or all features
Zoom to Rectangle
- To zoom to a specific area, hold down your Shift key on your keyboard and hold down the left mouse button and create a rectangle around the area to zoom to
- When you let go of the left mouse button it will zoom to that area
Zoom In & Out 
- To Zoom in or out on the map click on the + or – buttons
- To Zoom in & out, use your mouse’s middle scroll button


4 Select a Year
- Our viewers often have data covering several years.
- To view data for a particular year, click on the dropdown arrow and Select a Year
- To deselect All Years click on this circular arrows on the top right of the window
- To deselect One or Multiple years click on Remove next to each one
5 Colour Maps
- Click on down arrow in the dropdown list and select an indicator to colour map (eg murder)
- The colour map on the viewer page will change immediately.
- To map another indicator, select from the dropdown list again


6 Search for a Place
- Allows subsets of features to be selected
- Click on the drop down arrow and select a Province and click Apply
- Click on the drop down arrow and select a Municipality and click Apply
- Click on the drop down arrow and select a Place and click Apply
- To deselect One or Multiple features click on Remove next to each one
7 Filtering
- Click on single piece of the Donut chart to see only those spatial features
- Click on a second piece of the Donut chart to see spatial features for the two pieces
- Multiple pieces can be selected in different charts to filter the spatial data
- To deselect a piece of the Donut chart just click on it again


8 Summary statistics
- As you select a piece of any of the Donut charts, only spatial features associated with those pieces are shown
- Multiple pieces can be selected in different charts to filter the spatial data
All the Donut charts change automatically to show you summary statistics on the selected features - By hovering your cursor over the pieces of the Donut chart the number or percentage spatial features in that class are shown
- For example: select in the Channel chart, House Shop/Spaza/Kiosk then hover over the Trading Environment chart. It shows that in Tembisa there are 14 Spaza shops in residential areas and 2 near hospitals
- The percentages associated with the selected features is given next to the names in the chart legend
- The number of selected features are always shown at the top of the window
9 View Secondary Chart & Table Window
- Click on the C button on the right of the window and a new window will open showing charts and tables OR scroll down to the Dashboard page
- To view data linked to tables click on the Maximize button to open & to close the view of the table
- To view data linked to charts click on the Maximize button to open & to close the view of the chart
- NB if features have been selected only data of selected features will show


10 Making Text Larger
- To make text larger on the screen hold down the Ctrl key and press the ‘+’ button as many times as you need to be able to read the text
- To make text smaller on the screen hold down the Ctrl key and press the ‘-‘ button as many times as you need to be able to make the text smaller
